No thanks to this petition

While crowded among those at the post office participating in the corporate Christmas spirit of selling, buying and shipping stuff to loved ones, I was asked by a man outside, "Would you like to sign a petition?" Ah! One of the resources we still have to ensure citizens' voices are heard.

"We're trying to stop the use of taxpayers' money from funding political candidates here in Portland," he continued.

Hmm, and keep even the option to run for office controlled by the very rich and corporate interests? No, thank you. Merry Christmas, Democracy!
