LIKES PUBLIC CAMPAIGN FUNDING

Editor:

Voter-Owned Elections are cost-effective.  How can I tell?  Just look at the big-money contributors who want to repeal this innovative campaign finance reform system in the city.  The current system works for those with big checkbooks for campaign contributions that provide access and favors in City Hall.  No wonder they don’t want to see reform – they want to keep buying candidates.  Voters in Albuquerque just joined Portland and six states in adopting full public financing reform with a decisive 69 percent “yes” vote. I predict that Portlanders, like those in New Mexico, will see through the self-interest of those who want to repeal Voter-Owned Elections.  Public funding campaign finance reform puts the public back in politics.
