On so many neighborhood issues, like the East Burnside Bridge development, the tram over Lair Hill, or covering the Mt. Tabor reservoir, I see neighborhood concerns getting short shrift at City Hall, and community activists needing to fight City Council decisions.
We can do better, and I urge your support of Voter-Owned Elections. This is a fair and sensible campaign finance reform proposal that is changing “business as usual” in Maine and Arizona politics, where it has been in place for three elections. Voter-Owned Elections is working in those state to increase competition and give voters more choices, campaigns that focus on voters rather than campaign contributors, and policy decisions made by politicians who are listening to voters and keeping campaign promises.
The Portland City council is expected to take action in early April, so check out Voter-Owned Elections soon as a way to give more power to neighborhood concerns. Want more information? Go to the Voter-Owned Elections web page at www.oregonfollowthemoney.org. Voter-Owned Elections give neighborhoods more clout!
