A part of the whole annual budget for the City of Portland, the cost of Voter Owned Elections is actually very small.  The tiny sliver of pie in the chart below shows how little Voter Owned Elections would cost.  For comparison, we’ve also included two other important City programs – the Police Bureau and Environmental Services Operations (the folks who take care of our sewers and keep waste out of our rivers).  All other City services are under the “everything else” category.

City Budget - $907 Million

Voter owned elections is a fair and sensible approach to restore accountability and control to Portland voters. The cost of $2.45 per Portland resident is a reasonable amount to pay to overturn “business as usual.”
